Hey guys, I'd be interested in wholesale properties in Tampa. I'm wanting to get into buy and hold. Just missed out on my first deal today! I'd love to see what you have available and get updates when you add properties.

Great info. I agree about getting into an existing property to learn the ropes before jumping into a development, which I am planning to do early this year.

Colin- yes I am very familiar with Jonathan Segal's work- he is one of the main reasons I started thinking about real estate development and being my own client. I've done his Architect as Developer course.

Ben G- Interesting you mention about being a pioneer- I've had the same concerns, but I continue to look at a specific area of town like you describe. It has a great upside potential and existing units are fully rented and getting good rents, but there has been no new development there in decades, which makes me think 1) there must be a reason why AND 2) I need to take advantage of the opportunity for that reason.

Thanks for the replies, I am eager to learn more and to build some great relationships on BP!

Hi BiggerPockets people! I've been enjoying the podcasts and site for a few months now and I thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is Joe, I am a new investor, located in Tampa, FL. I've worked as an Architect for the last 10 or so years and I'm ready to sit on the other side of the table as an owner! The podcasts have been infectious, and there are several of us at work that have started listening and have "seen the light" of real estate investing.

I am especially interested in commercial multifamily. I'm looking at existing property to invest in, but I like the idea of developing my own project to leverage my experience. I'm curious to hear anyones thoughts on the new vs. existing argument, especially any indicators on when it makes financial sense to build new.

I've learned a ton since discovering bigger pockets and still have a long way to go. Thanks and looking forward to the future!
