Quote from @Henry T.:

I used to even include a clip of the newspaper articles when a major levy was passed.   After a tenant called me to scream how important the levy was I stopped doing it, but they get the increase anyway and a thank you for voting.

This is wonderful.  So many don't understand basic economics.  I wonder where they think the money is going to come from to pay for the endless levies.

Quote from @Seth Quade:

Thanks @Andre Brock.  The molestation charge was in 2001.  It looks like he was not officially convicted, but...

Was it during a divorce?  He wasn't convicted.  The charge has become all too common for custody disputes.

It's easy to find tenants; it's more difficult to find GOOD tenants.

Screen, screen, screen.  Do a search here and you'll find great screening advice.

Why not start college now?  Don't know where you live, but most states have accelerated programs where you can earn your AA while still in high school.  Even better, spend a few hours in the forums at degreeinfo.com learning how to get a degree quickly and relatively inexpensively.  You write well (except for the "eye trouble") and appear to be intelligent enough to test through much of a degree.  That will satisfy your father and show him that you are more than just dreaming.  Know that, in most cases, parents' wisdom FAR exceeds a child's knowledge.  From there (or during the time you're earning your degree), get a job.  Any job.  I can't imagine you have many bills to pay.  Stop spending.

I'd be surprised to see anyone take on a face-to-face mentorship with someone under 18, just because of insurance and legal implications.

Listen to your parents, get a degree (something that can't be taken from you), get a job, build some cash. THEN think about investing.

You might want to wait and see what happens in court.  He's CHARGED, not convicted.  If true, then you can move on from there.  But all it takes is one overzealous "mandatory reporter" to decide something the child has said, drawn, acted constitutes child abuse.  With six children, it seems that the others would probably have known and reported.

With first-hand experience of an overzealous medical professional, I'd wait to see if the charges are valid.

Two able-bodied adults who make life choices that result in eviction, but the landlord should feel sorry for them?  Car maintenance is a given, yet she chose not to put anything away for it.  Who wants to bet the daughter has maxed out student loans, they both have iPhones, and make needless purchases?  The story smells.

The family that owed $5400 in rent means they stiffed the landlord for about four months while crapping up the place.  People who work HAVE money; they're just choosing to pay other things first.  I have very little sympathy for those who voluntarily stiff other people.

Quote from @James Hamling:

I am surprised how concerned people are getting over mostly driving violations.

If it was JUST driving, I'd agree.  But there is disorderly conduct and criminal trespass as well.  That reads drinking problem or belligerent personality to me.

Is it possible that the cheaper quote with the $0 does not include the materials?

You should be able to look him up on your state's registry.  There's a huge difference between a 21 year old with a 15 year old girlfriend and a serial rapist.

I'm surprised that someone who recognizes the illegal importation of often unvetted individuals would seek to find yet another way to fleece the taxpayers.

To answer your question, though, it would appear that the money being made is passing through non-profit agencies who then make the decision where to house them.  Doubtful that, unless you have existing connections or are part of the Hotel Association of New York City (or what is the funded organization in your area), you would be able to cash in on that.

I don't do business in New York or CT, and am open to being corrected by someone local.
