Hello everyone! I'll be short and sweet as I imagine there are tons of new Intros every day here. A huge pleasure to be here and have found the forum and podcast!
I'm new to the Real Estate world, just back from a 2-year travel around the world. I left my previous job in the Tech world in search for adventure (found a sailing boat) and have just made my first single home purchase in order to get my hands dirty and learn by doing and most possibly messing up a few times.
Anyhow, what I'm doing in BP is trying to learn as much as possible, find knowledge, share personal projects, get/give advise whenever possible, make connections, all in line with making my dream possible one day which is to run a small family run investing firm.
On the side of building a portfolio of investment properties in the future, I'm evaluating getting a job in Real Estate too because I'm passionate about the industry and because it can be a path to learning as much as possible about Real Estate generally while earning money, save, and then invest myself.
I think it's Ok to ask for advice here, so here it goes. I apologise if I should be publishing this somewhere else!
- Specific advice: If you had 100k cash saved up today and you were a Newbie in Real Estate (with good risk tolerance, no kids or wife and in a safe financial situation where I can afford my basic needs and don't need to work for the next 3 months), how would you spend it? Imagine your Goal is to find Financial Security (first) and eventually complete Financial Freedom (leave the Corporate gig) and you want to achieve in the next 10 years a monthly net income of 30k monthly, become an expert, and dedicate your professional (and great part of the personal) life to this industry. I feel I'm doing a lot of things, perhaps too many and could use some directions. I considering it all, from using the money and invest it directly to learn by doing, going into the Academic path, and everything in between. To be specific, my steps to fully get into this world so far have been:
- Buy my first home
- Sign up to BiggerPockets website
- Listen to the first 5 podcasts (loving it)
- Send this message
- Evaluate specialized Masters in R.E and meet with alumni and teachers plus attend one class as a guest observer
- Meet with friends working in the industry (mainly working for big Funds and Developers)
- Bought the 13 most widely recommended books in R.E. All topics: Investing, Building material, Flipping, Raising Capital, long etc. (read first 3)
- Looking for a Mentor
- Looking for a job in R.E
- Taking several courses in Coursera and Udemy
All thoughts and ideas are very welcome! Thanks for having me here and for reading all the way down here if you made it.
