For anyone searching for a CL alternative, check out www.backpage.com.

I have been using backpage.com as an alternate method of posting interactive ads. it is a "free classified ads" website that is available in a lot of the major cities around the U.S. and the world, and IT DOES ACCEPT embedded HTML tags.

I have come to rely on the <a href=> tag as a 'click-able' link in my ads to direct readers to my squeeze page form. It is a great time-saver to have the sellers and buyers submit their info and have it auto-populate my excel worksheet!

In light of these recent CL developments, I have been using backpage.com as an alternate method of posting interactive ads. This "free classified ads" website does not have the same coverage or readership as CL.

However, it is available in a lot of the major cities around the U.S. and the world, and IT DOES ACCEPT embedded HTML tags.

I love using the <a href=> tag as a 'click-able' link to my squeeze page form. It is a great time-saver to have the sellers and buyers submit their info and have it auto-populate my excel worksheet!

Thanks Brandon for pointing me to your blog post. Great reading and informative!

While it is possible to post the raw URLs within an ad, many URLs can be rather lengthy, cumbersome, or un-intuitive for some readers to utilize.

For those reasons I also tried to use many of the various URL shorteners to make it easier for the CL reader to cut-and-paste the link into their browser. Unfortunately, CL also filters for the abbreviated URL formats and disallows these as well.

I've noticed that Craigslist (San Diego edition) does not allow embedding HTML code in ads that are posted in the "For Sale" or "Housing" categories. This is a big bummer for me because I've been using it to help build my Buyer's List. I had been using the HTML <a href=> tag to forward the reader to my online squeeze page/input form. Now this practice is not permitted by CL.

Has anyone else seen/experienced this ?

So now I am limited to ads in these categories that are text-only OR they may contain some basic image files. Is there a workaround to this new development? Ideally, I want a way to embed forwarding links in the uploaded images such that CL will not strip/block them?

Thanks!

Recently I've noticed that CL in San Diego does not allow embedding HTML code in ads that are posted to the "For Sale" or "Housing" categories. What a bummer, since I've been successfully building a Buyer's List by utilizing this capability.
