Gents, sorry for the delayed response. I was in the field for 3 weeks. I'm interested in meeting up to learn as a group and share knowledge.

Paul,

This a great topic that really applies to so many transitioning military members. I am in a similar situation but add in my wife and two elementary aged children. We have discussed buying an RV to explore areas along the east coast that seem to be desirable for business, taxes, real estate, and schools for the kids. Of course there would have to be a trip cross country check off a few bucket list items too. The Army Times recently posted an article about wandering as a way of life to find your true interests and decompress. It seems like a good way to explore potential REI markets without committing to a personal mortgage or lease. I will be following this thread to continue reading the great advice and discussion from BP members. Thanks for posting such a great topic!

@laura

Thanks for the information and feedback. Do you work with new to the business investors? Most of the reading and webinars say wholesalers primarily work with established repeat buyers.

@Richard Balsam Thank you for the sound advice and perspective. I am looking for the networking you mention and don't mind small fees/dues to attend the network meetings. Some of the groups just seem like they are pushing pretty hard for everyone to attend a course and use the first few meetings as bait to get students signed up. I've also been approached by some people selling courses from $1000 and up with annual fees and additional courses required for memberships. I think Bigger Pockets, Afford Anything, and other professionals with links to BP offer some great advice in blogs, forums, and webinars. I have read, watched, and studied a lot of those info sources and am ready to take action on my plan.

@Thomas Franklin I appreciate your response. Yes, I agree with you. I'm not interested in paying to attend any courses or for a mentor. I'm not interested in pooling money in other people's deals either.  And you are correct, I walk away from groups and deals that don't match my interests. I am just looking for a local group (no dues associated) that has similar interests in the area.
