I've asked a few questions in the past that are similar to this topic, but I wanted anyones opinion on what they think is the best house hacking strategy to do in Columbus. I've mainly seen the single family rent by room or the multifamily strategy, but also have seen people that rent out parts of their house as an Airbnb. What do you guys think is the best strategy for this area?

I am looking to do an FHA loan or possibly another type of low down payment loan. I suggest reading The House Hacking Strategy by Craig Curelop if you're really interested in house hacking.

Thanks for the very detailed response! I have been mainly looking at kamms/west park or Lakewood, but the others you mentioned such as Brooklyn would work fine. I already live the life of a college student on a budget and it would be the goal to keep that lifestyle going in to house hacking to save as much as possible and build on it.

I am from the west side of Cleveland, but go to college at Ohio State. Where I house hack depends on the location of the job I get after I graduate next year. I am definitely interested in House hacking in Columbus if I stay there after graduation and would love to learn more about anybody’s experience with it in Columbus if you know anyone or have any advice.

Is anyone in the Cleveland area, preferably the west side, currently house hacking or know anyone that is house hacking? If so, what strategy are you using (traditional, rent by the room, Airbnb, etc.) and how is it working out for you? I know I want to house hack after I graduate next year and just wanted to learn from other people’s experiences. Thanks!

Thanks for the information! I would be buying in good faith to live there, but I'll be a recent graduate and may have to take a job out of state. Thanks for clearing it up. 

I am looking into house hacking and was wondering the restrictions to an FHA loan. If you find a job elsewhere while you have the loan are there any penalties for moving? Are you still able to keep it and use it as a rental property? Are you able to get a second FHA loan in the place that you move to?

@James Maradits With my budget it seems that house hacking is the way to go and Lakewood and Kamm's Corner seem like great places to start. Thanks for the insight!
