@Natalie Kolodij thank you! That is a huge help.

Because they are different tax forms, can you not use your real estate tax write-offs to reduce your income tax from a W2 job?

@Craig Jeppesen

Thanks so much @Craig Jeppesen! I was quite worried.

Hello,

So I recently found out that you can only write off $10k from local and state income tax. Does this mean I cannot write off depreciation + property tax + mortgage interest more than $10k?

Thanks in advance for your time!

I have no investments currently. I'm 22 years old and have been listening to the BiggerPockets podcast for the last 3 years. I just graduated college and am finally making enough money to invest but the California markets are too expensive for buy and hold. I plan on using all my income and free time to invest over the next 8 years (until I'm 30) in buy and hold rentals. I chose Omaha because the numbers make sense and it is a growing market. Also, I have some family in the area. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate!

I am a software engineer living in California looking to invest in Omaha, Nebraska. I can bring money to deals and am looking for someone in Omaha to partner with who has experience and can teach me about the market.
