Post: How to convert 401k to self directed?

I'm looking for an IRA/401k Custodian that can help, I have some 401k money with Fidelity...they don't have any option to allow me to self-direct and invest it, nor could they tell me what custodian could help with that (of course they don't want me to move my $ away). I'm looking to move it to a self-directed account/custodian. Any recommendations/contacts? I'm still employed and contributing to this 401k, so I'm limited on taking a draw or withdrawing on it. I've been told I could move it to a self-directed but not finding any good leads yet. Appreciate the help!

That's the term I was looking for but couldn't think of...I'm looking for a IRA custodian, I'm told it's possible, just need to find one then I should be able to transfer (from my understanding).

I have some money in a Fidelity 401k (and still adding to it)...how can I convert to a self-directed account?  Any recommendations on brokers that can help?  I've called Fidelity customer support and was told they couldn't help me/didn't know (as they don't do/have self-directed accounts).  I'm still employed and contributing, so I can't withdrawal.  I can't loan enough from it to invest, but if I can move it, there's enough.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm looking to BRRRR, maybe buy/rehab/sale a few, but mostly BRRRR.

I'm a new/first time investor, moved my family to San Antonio Oct. 2019.  Trying to learn the area, looking for good B/C areas.  I'm finding some good older posts/suggestions, but some are 1-2 years old, so looking for more recent suggestions (especially amid Coronavirus).  Thank you.
