@Benjamin Z. Pickens

I’m new and just learning for now... but my mother had a house rented to a couple for years that said all the same things. They wanted to improve the house and they wanted to buy it from her. They also had new excuses for why they wouldn’t get a loan every time they brought up buying and she asked. In the end they threatened her, stopped paying rent for 6 months, removed trees and left holes all over the yard (it was on 2.5 acres) and did a ton of damage to the house. She felt lucky to get out of it in the end by selling it to the lawyer that evicted them for what she owed on it.

I’m not saying your tenants will do the same, but definitely don’t let them pressure you into selling if you don’t want to. You can always find new tenants.

Good luck!

I appreciate the welcome and advice from everyone!

@Jordan Moorhead  Definitely.  I live in a vacation community actually and many do that here.  I'm not sure how it compares to longer term rentals financially but I'm open to the idea for sure.

I'm a disabled vet with a lake house near Austin. It needs some work, but I used the VA home loan when the lake was extremely low. I'm not sure if renting is the best option, but first I need to move. For now I'm trying to decide if I should pay to rent or if I should BRRRR in San Angelo. Credit is an issue but right now it's a waiting game so I may end up renting for a bit though I'd much rather not. It's a frustrating situation.

I've spent some time pouring over BiggerPockets youtube videos and am going through the book on rental property investing again.  I'm learning!  Loving the resources here too!
