Bob C. Thanks for the welcome. My in laws are in Beekman/lagrangeville would have loved to buy the primary in Dutchess, but the wife works in lower Manhattan. How do you feel about Newburgh for long term investment?

Hi Big Pockets, Glad I found this forum. I have a small amount of real estate investing experience and am looking to gain more experience and more property. My first purchase in July of 2007 in Bed Stuy NY is now a good property with positive cash flow and equity. I made many mistake in that first purchase. I bought high spent too much on renovations and was vacant for too long. live and learn. My second purchase was a vacant single family short sale I bought to live in with my young family. I have two small children and hope to grow my investments to pass along to them one day. I own a small home Reno business I began recently, to keep active while I am low on cash to buy new properties. I have been in construction for about 25 years mostly on large civil projects or working on bars and restaurants, so home Reno was a bit out of my expertise but I'm beginning to get the hang of it now. My next project is to sell my current Pleasantville NY home. That house sits on a busy parkway and find a larger home, needing work in the same school district, on a quiet street. Afterwards I would like to purchase distressed homes in the Hudson Valley or northern New Jersey. I don't mind buying in areas that are considered high crime, if they look to be turning around.
