If I am purchasing a property with a underground oil tank in nj and I get the soil tested and the results are clean.  Do I have to remove the tank or can I sand fill it ?

@Darren Sager  Thanks Darren,  yes the lead paint is chipping all over, ceilings, around windows, and walls.  I was going to scrape down what was chipping and paint over everything when finished.   I just wanted to make sure it was legal to do so and not have to get it all removed.

@Dave Shellenberger Okay so if the pipes are in the walls and not visible it's fine & I don't have to do anything to them?

Do you have and knowledge of lead based paint ?

It's not occupied right now .. If I'm doing work on my own house such as lead paint removal myself by scraping it, that is considered illegal ?

Hi I am in the process of maybe purchasing a huge 3 family home for a pretty cheap price, however it needs a lot of repairs.  We do our own work so I will save a lot of money that way.   There is some things I am concerned about like Lead paint everywhere, and Asbestos on the piping in the basement.  The problem is how will I know if the asbestos is throughout the house inside the walls and ceilings or just in the basement ?

My other question is when I get inspections from the state to rent it out what are the requirements I will need to meet when having lead paint or asbestos in my home.  Does it have to be completely removed or just covered the proper way?

I am in the process of purchasing a 3 family home that is going to need about 30k in repairs.  That is me doing the work myself since my father does construction for a living.  It's a pretty large 3 family in Central NJ, but I'm wondering what it is really worth or will be worth after I fix it up.  How can I tell ?

Why is it so hard to find a listing of Foreclosures and Short sales in NJ .. Can't a real estate agent just send me a listing of all of them in my area??
