Either, there is or there is not a privileged relationship. In either case, the terms should be clear, and each party should take responsibility for their end of the agreement and should also expect to be held accountable for the same. In my opinion, if flexibility, such as due dates, is to be expected, it should be in print including the parameters of the flexibility. Now that the privileged relationship is terminated, your tenant can be upset, but if you wish to maintain credibility and respect, following the terms of a lease is a must. Exceptions happen and can be discussed among reasonable adults, but the relationship needs a foundation within the rules, not within the exceptions.
