As I'm just starting out, I have been checking the boxes on diligence on structuring the first few deals.  Does anyone have thoughts on the following:

1) Insurance - What are your experiences with using an umbrella policy for the first few properties rather than taking out individual policies on each property?

2) Legal Form - What are your experiences on purchasing properties in an LLC vs as an individual? I have some understanding of managing liabilities/risk and how structure affects the ability to secure financing, but need to learn more. This relates to the first question, as the legal risk can be managed somewhat with the appropriate insurance.

I am starting an endeavor to build a portfolio of single family residences and/or small multifamily properties.  I am focusing on central Texas initially, with a goal to purchase, possibly improve, and then hold properties to generate income.  I look forward to participating in, and learning from, the bigger pockets community.
