Angelo, I'm down in Philly and am also looking for Homestyle lenders.   Did you end up finding some lenders to speak with?

Hi @Zachary Paul - thanks! I'm focusing on the BRRR strategy. However I would definitely consider listing a renovated property for both rent and sale with a high sale asking price just in case I could get it.

I'm looking at Norristown right now due to the low cost of entry.  Trying to stay in better parts of town, such as the west end towards Jeffersonville/West Norriton.

Hi everyone!  Brand new investor here from the Philadelphia, PA suburbs (Lansdale/Worcester Twp).  I ended up here after reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad a few months ago, and apparently I'm very far from alone on that!  I already knew I wasn't a big fan of trying to pick stocks (even my 401k is basically on autopilot), but I was very interested in learning more about real estate investing and making my money work harder for me.

My wife and I purchased our first home in 2014, so that is the extent of my real estate experience.  However, I've read several BiggerPocktets books including The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Real Estate Investing, The Book on Rental Property Investing, and Tax Strategies for the Savvy Real Estate Investor, as well as How to Be A Real Estate Investor by Phil Pustejovsky.

I'm an electrical engineer in the architectural/engineering consulting industry for government clients, mostly airports, rail and transportation.

Excited to be here and eager to learn!  I would love to network with investors in the Philadelphia area, and if you are a DIG member please let me know so we can be sure to find each other at the next meeting!

Fun random fact: I also DJ weddings and private events on the side.

Hey @Beverly Wertz, I grew up next door in Dillsburg... small world!  Also, I have the same question; having read the book, I'm convinced I need the right CPA that specifically understands real estate.

The book was a great read.  The self-directed retirement accounts thing is a revelation... I can't believe it's such a little-known opportunity, even with the wealth of information available today. This book has excellent information which can be applied to many things, not just real estate investing.
