Hello, and welcome to BiggerPockets!  I am new here as well, and checking BP everyday.  Be sure to set up "Buffalo" as a keyword alert to keep in touch with others in the area.

Hope to see you around BP, and Buffalo!

~Jerry

Hi Jeffrey; Welcome to Bigger Pockets! I'm from Buffalo too, and am reading content here every day. Be sure to use the keyword notification feature, and add "Buffalo" to your keywords. I hope to meet other BP users from Buffalo, perhaps in a RE investing club, or REA, setting. Let's connect and keep in touch!

Post: Thoughts on improving the exterior of this 4-plex

I really like Valerie Hiscoe's  suggestions!   I also agree about the single color building re-paint, but would also suggest the addition of exterior faux window casings to add additional architectural interest.  Because of the square, boxy, somewhat minimalist  design of the building, I would choose a simple squarish design such as Craftsman.   Painting the building a darker grey with a crisp white trim would really give it a new look.  Also, that wrought iron could be wrapped in wood columns so that the porch roof doesn't look like its floating.

I also find Pinterest to be a great resource for exterior house ideas.  Here's a link to an exterior window trim page from one member....

Hello, Everyone! I'm a new member from Buffalo, NY. For the first half of my career, I was in the toy business. My family and I owned toy stores in the Buffalo area for more than 25 years. Being a successful small business owner taught me many valuable skills and gave me a great sense of accomplishment, but with the decline of "traditional playthings" and the rise of electronics as children's entertainment, (do you know a young child that DOESN'T play with a 'screen device' more than wooden blocks?) and the financial collapse of the Great Recession, I decided to leave the toy industry. That led to a 5-year stint at as a Gourmet Food Buyer, which I enjoyed immensely, but couldn't see myself retiring from. Food and drink is a great passion of mine, but it will make a better hobby than career. So, I leapt at the chance to join a small group in Buffalo, that flips, rents, and wholesales residential and commercial properties. I'm the Acquisitions Manager with the group, and I'm learning a great deal each day, (and Bigger Pockets, and the Podscasts, are very helpful), and will be studying for my real estate agent license shortly. Coming into real estate with about 15 years left before retirement, I hope to quickly add properties of my own, that I can then use for passive income while retired. Looking forward to the journey together online. Cheers; Jerry

Hi Qusay, I'm not a real estate agent (yet,) but I do work for a company in Buffalo that does wholesale, including multi-family properties. Send me a private message, so that I'm not spamming this thread, and I'll contact you some time next week, as I'm currently on vacation.

Hi Shannon, welcome to Bigger Pockets. I'm ALSO from Buffalo! Yes, that Gabled detail is common in Buffalo, especially with the Arts & Crafts Period bungalows you find in North Buffalo around Hertel and Parkside. But be careful adding those stone trimmed pillars and square columns to homes not in that style, for example Colonials - because they'll really look out of place. You can Google image search "arts and crafts bungalow" for more examples.
