Before being a stay-at-home mom, I was in retail management. My heart was not satisfied staying at home, and I wanted to do more, but I knew I did not want to go back into retail. I didn’t know how to change careers, so my first step was reading and trying to grow my knowledge. I started reading about real estate and listening to podcasts. I read your book, and it inspired me to put my dreams into action. I joined local investing groups on Facebook and eventually got a job working for a property management company. Landing that job was partly luck but also because I was surrounding myself with what I wanted, and what I wanted was to work and learn about real estate. I worked my way through the company, starting in the repairs department, then leasing, and then becoming the billing manager. I learned a lot at the company but realized working for a property management company was not the right fit for me. I am now a business analyst for a global marketing and PR agency. I work on financial planning, project management, analyzing data, and being the bridge between my department and accounting. I have used your templates for two years now to help with my goal creation and to help shift my goals as they have changed. I could never have imagined where I am now, when I started creating my goals two years ago. My husband and I will be getting our first investment property by the end of Q1 of next year, and we are working on renovating our current house to become a rental as well. I may not have enjoyed working at a property management company, but I have the knowledge to self-manage the properties we will be renting out. My 5-year attainable goal is to have 5 single-family rental properties plus 1 short-term vacation rental and to be in a director role. I told my 5-year old daughter I wanted 100 houses in 10 years; she proceeded to tell me that’s a lot of money lol … so that is my stretch goal. All that to say, two years of goal setting, changing and making habits, constant learning and growth, and surrounding myself with people who inspire me have changed my life. Your book was what helped me get started.
