Hi everybody! I hope everybody is keeping safe during this pandemic times. As you all know, STRs has been on hold in Big bear and pretty much everywhere else. I thought it will be a good time to re-evaluate my set up on my vacation rental place. I decided I need to switch some key people. So I am calling out to my fellow Big Bear owners if they can can recommend any good and reliable cleaners out there. My current cleaner decided to outsource her cleaning service and has been doing a poor job lately. I hope you guys can help me out. I appreciate any info you guys can spare me. Thank you!

Hi there fellow BP people! I have a current dilemma that I am hoping I can get your advise on. I just found out today that my VR listing is being advertised on Craig list without my knowledge.A lady and her kids just showed up on my VR today as I was expecting new guests to check in claiming that she booked my VR through Craig list and showed me proof of her transaction and the exchange of emails with this person who has been posing as my “manager” for my property. Apparently, I am listed under vacation rentals. She txted me her contract and told me she paid them via PayPal. I advised the poor lady to go after PayPal to get her money back. I sent my local person to help them find a cabin, which thankfully they were able to do. Now my question is, how do I go about this? Should I call Craig list to find out how to pull out my listing there? I do have evolve handling my property bookings, should I enlist their help too? Any advise would really help. Thank you!

Thank you everyone for the response! Just to give you all an update: she emailed me again yesterday saying that her family that was sick passed away. in her defense, she was not really pushy just sort of resigned to the fact that she will lose all her money. i did the high road and decided to follow john crosby's advice. i offered her alternate nights in which she was very thankful for so she decided to cancel. we opened the dates today and posted it in fb to all our family and friends on the vacancy and hopefully somebody will be interested. i am crossing my fingers! thank you for all the help. it really gave me perspective. i appreciate all of you! merry christmas!

Hi there! I have been trolling this site for awhile now, eagerly learning from all the discussions and blogs this site has to offer. I gather that most of the people who posts here has had been experienced in short term rentals so i decided to seek your wisdom on the current dilemma i have. just for background info: i have an STR in big bear ca that i have been operating for a year now. i had utilized evolve to handle all marketing and reservations and it has been ok so far. i have an upcoming guest that is supposed to check in on december 26 with a reservation for 4 nights. those dates are the highest priced days in big bear. i has been my routine to email my guests check in instructions 3-4 days prior to check in. when i did that to her, she responded back stating that she was trying to cancel for a couple of weeks because of sickness in her family and was trying to cancel. i checked with evolve if that was true, they said she never reached out to them and that she opted to not get travel insurance so we are not liable to refund her anything but it is up to me if i want to give her back a portion of what she paid. now this is not the first time this happened to me, another guest tried to cancel last minute to me a couple of months ago requesting that they get refunded even without travel insurance which i did (a portion) since she did it a week prior and the dates were not so pricey as this one. and she had a sick relative too!! now, should i do the same again? or should i stick with the contract that i dont get to refund them anything? i fear that i wont be able to book it anymore since it is so close to her check in date but i also fear that i am burning my bridges with this guest already if i do that. thanks for any help you guys can give me. i appreciate it!!!

Hi there. I am new in this forum and i am looking forward to connect and be able to learn from all of you. We recently purchased a cabin in big bear ca with plans of using it part time and renting it out on winter. Any good advice we can have on how to start up renting our place? We need some stuff to be fixed before we can list it. Any recommendations for good contractors in the area? I would also need contacts on a good housekeeping service and handyman services. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
