I am not so much concerned about the on going costs we are not a young couple. We know the rent vs own scenario very well lol. I am just wondering what happens if the home is ordered and the land is being prepared and unfortunately his company closes. Can we move forward what happens. Maybe I came to the wrong forum if so I am sorry. I just want to make sure if we start the process we can finish. :) Again sorry if I am in the wrong place for my ?

Wow all these answers so fast. We unfortunately have to stay in Queensbury for the kids school thats important to us. We have been looking at brand new modulars with the thought no work no repairs for a few years. We are both willing to work 2 jobs to keep our home. We are the least handy people we know so trying to stay away from anything at all that needs repair.  We will be 1st time home buyers and I dont want to go in blind looking for all the input and doing as much research as possible. So thank you all what a wonderful site :)

Will try to make a long story short. We have a nice lump sum of money coming. We rent at a rate more than it would cost to own. My husband is possibly losing his job before the end of the year. We want to take the lump sum as a down payment on a new modular home. Hoping to be built and ready to be lived in. Our thought process is renting is so expensive and you have to be able to afford to have a home job or no job. What happens if he loses his job in the middle of the ordering delivery building closing process. Would love input
