Worthwhile trip for me. I was able to network with many sponsors and got a good pulse of the market. I think that benefit outweighed the sale-sy nature of it. Now to do a deal...

Sweet. Let's definitely catch up. Anyone else from BP going to be at Sumrok's event this weekend?

Can always check the local area REIAs and see if there are multifamily meetups.  Some sponsors go to those local events to build their own networks.  You can also look into Mark Kenny's, Michael Becker, or The Real Estate Guys events.  They are all doing deals in those markets and their events would be great networking opportunities.

Thanks Chase. My issue with local REIAs is that I'm out of state and the one's near me are not very strong. Lots of newbies show up when the cost of entry is free. I will try Brad's event and go from there.

Yes, a number of times, and I'll be at the one March 9-10. There are about 500 or 600 people there, ranging from newbies to experienced sponsors who have bought thousands of doors in TX and other states. You can meet dozens of Brad's students, many of whom have taken down several deals in recent years.

Another event you should check out is the Old Capital conference in September or October. I don't think they have a date set yet, but if you don't know who they are, you need to be listening to their podcast if you are interested in buying multi-family in Texas. There was also a conference in Houston last weekend that I heard was good, sponsored by some local operators, the kinds of guys that you'd want to meet. I didn't go though.

Let's connect. I just signed up for Brad's event in March.

There are definitely good networking opportunities at these types of events. Get there early and take full advantage of the breaks and the lunches, and stay in the hotel where the event is being held so you can stay up late and find people to eat dinner with.

Having said that, you'll want to make sure you understand what is acceptable at each particular event. For example, at the Sumrok weekend, someone who is blatantly only there to promote their own business may be asked to leave. Loitering outside the meeting room when the session is happening is also discouraged...if you want to have a conversation with someone instead of watching the lecture, then go to another part of the building (lobby, outside) to avoid annoying the event organizers who are trying to keep the event running on time without disruptions.

That makes sense. Have you attended his events in the past? How would you categorize the typical attendee? I'm looking for local experience operators to connect with.

Which strategies have worked for you? I am out of state and would bring capital but am looking for co-sponsors. I'm not looking for passive opportunities.
