A very late thank you for the replies. I selected the accountant who was referred by my attorney. The attorney specializes in real estate and is also an investor. The CPA has REI clients and knows it well.

If memory serves me, someone posted a graph of Cincinnati water/sewer cost increases over time compared to national averages.  I just got a bill that went up 35%.  Considering strategies to meter or charge for water.  The chart would be useful to include in a letter to tenants.  Searches of the forums haven't turned up the graph.  Have I lost my mind or is it out there?  Thanks all.

Hello BPers, in the past year or so I took on a partner to build a real estate business while continuing to work my demanding corporate job, which I plan to continue indefinitely. We're up to 23 units. We need a more sophisticated accountant who can handle the complexity as we continue to grow. I'm looking for suggestions such as questions to ask and selection criteria. Advance thanks for your input.

Thank you to everyone for the responses and input.  Since I started this thread I purchased QuickBook Pro.  After reviewing some of the start up materials, I think I want to hire someone to help me with set up and in general ramping up my use of the product.  Thoughts on that?

The more units I acquire the more hard copies of records I have. Bills for utilities, water, insurance, repairs, leases, supplies, etc. What can be stored electronically vs. what hard copies need to be kept? If store electronically what about storing on a PC and backing up vs. in the cloud? Any preferences for cloud based document storage and sharing?

Long time reader, first time poster. I'm building a portfolio of properties, have 5 currently which total 14 units. I'm about to form my second LLC. I plan to keep growing and will probably create more LLC's. I have a full time job which I plan to keep for a long time and I have a partner in the real estate business who manages the day-to-day. Our strategy is buy and hold to develop income streams. I'm looking to purchase software that will not only handle my personal finances but also the finances of the real estate business. I'd like it to track rents, income, expenses, etc. I'm thinking Quicken may be the best choice. Looking for feedback from other BPers. Advance thanks.
