I heard of an experiment where you offer two strangers on the street $10k. Person "A" decides the split, & "B" has to agree. If the splits weren't 50/50 they were often declined, even though they both gained regardless of the split. Does it have to be 50/50?

What is your exit strategy? If you sell in a couple years, take the capital gains and your built up dependable income you could get another deal.

Ok gotcha, yea it's like a side gig. I would think you could make it work with a house cleaner, most of the correspondence can be automated through AirBnb.

If that's too much you don't need someone to hold your hand through the process, but to build/manage it for you.

@Joe S., Do you live in SA/close by the STR? I started hosting this past fall with AirBnb and they make it pretty easy. Just jump in and do it man!

Wow, many thoughts across the board! Thanks for all the input.

I live in the house and rent a room, so I may not have as much trouble (crossing fingers). I'm going to give it a try and if it's too much of a hassle, no longer offer it.

Thanks again!

I've seen comments of others allowing pets and the extra income it provides. If you allow pets what limitations are you applying and deposit/fees?

Thanks

@Ken Latchers I see what you're saying. House hacking as I've heard it describes much more. Think more of hacking your personal housing situation, including what @Mike Cichy described buying a full duplex and renting half, which could be rented short term or long term. I've even heard it including renting a room to save on expenses (what I did to save for the house I just bought).

Whatever the name, it's definitely effective!

@Ken Latchers Out of curiosity, what do you call it? I am also new and call it househacking because I don't know what else to call it
