@Kelly Claiborne

Yes! I plan on house hacking for my first investment. I’d like my first investment to be a bit more turn key but in the future I’d also be open to investing in properties that could use a bit of rehab given my connections to local contractors.

@Sam Abazari

Hi Sam, thanks for reaching out.

I’m definitely interested in staying closer to Boston, I’ve been casually looking (Zillow, etc.) at properties in Dorchester and Roxbury as well as a bit further south in Quincy and surrounding areas. I need to start plugging deals into the BP Rental Property Calculator to determine how feasible each area would be to invest in though.

I’d love to connect, I’m very interested in hearing about others’ experiences in Boston real estate.

@Amanda Forde

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely be in touch with a local lender soon.

@Kelly Claiborne

I’m a few years out of school and still saving money for my first investment!

I spent (what I think was) too much time at a job that didn’t compensate me fairly for my efforts. I’ve now moved on to a job that pays 50% more than my previous role and begun saving aggressively.

Although I’m not in the market to buy anything yet I’m determined to do enough research and networking so that when the day comes I’m prepared to make smart investments.

Cheers,
Jeff

Wow this thread blew up! Great post @Nathan Gesner

I’m new to BP but as a tenant with a Golden Retriever I found all of these posts very relevant to my current and future situations.
When signing our current lease our landlords sprung a last minute addendum on us claiming any damage done by the dog would be considered outside the realm of “normal wear and tear”. Given the unbound scope of that language we eventually agreed to leave out the addendum.

As tenants we’ve made a point to cover all of the high traffic hardwood flooring with area rugs so that when we eventually move out everyone is happy. I couldn’t agree more with @Allan Smith that when I buy my first rental property (which I intend to make pet friendly) I’ll be investing in some Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. It’s practical, looks great, and provides everyone with peace of mind.

Also big thank you to @Curtis Bidwell for the well written Animal Policy! Definitely going to tuck that away for use down the road.
Cheers,

Jeff

@Lien Vuong @David Cahill @Philip Ganz

Thank you all for the responses!

I’ll be sure to narrow my focus to getting initial experience with my first multifamily buy and hold.

@Mason Hickman

Hi Mason,

Thanks for the welcome! I’d like to stay close to South Boston, I’ve been looking at properties in Dorchester and parts of Roxbury just to see what’s out there but I’m also willing to look at properties a bit further away from the city in Quincy and surrounding areas.

Hi all,

I’m Jeff, a 25yo Software Engineer currently renting a 1BR in South Boston with my girlfriend. I’m extremely eager to make the transition to the other side of rentals and buy a multi-family to start house hacking.

Another investment strategy I'd love to eventually employ is the BRRRR method since I have a good amount of local (central MA, south shore) general contractor and subcontractor connections. I'm also curious about getting my real estate license and how much it'd help with executing the strategies mentioned.

I’d love to connect with other individuals in the Boston/Cambridge area who share similar interests in real estate and I’m all ears to any advice people think would be helpful.

Cheers,

Jeff
