@James Wilcox I will be in the Indiana National Guard so I would assume I would qualify for a VA loan. My only concern with the VA loan is that I won't be able to use more than one in my life time.

What's holding me back is student loan debt. I've heard from multiple sources that house hacking is the way to go, however I am afraid of not having enough for a down payment, finding the right deal, as well as finding the financing for the deal. I want to make sure that the deal will provide enough cash flow to help pay down the loans and will lead to me moving out and purchasing more REI properties.

@David McKee @Brian Stephens @James Wilcox @Corby Goade thank you all for the ideas on how to make this work. I leave for basic training in January and come back in March. I believe by that time I will have enough for a down payment on a home. Refinancing the loans is the plan as well, however no lenders will speak with me until my November graduation date. My question to you all is, what should I look for when looking to house hack?

Hi All! I'm about to graduate college and I live in the Louisville, KY market. Rental properties are decently priced but our area is growing with the addition of Amazon and other big time employers moving this way. My question is should I pay down my student loan debt (~$60,000) before or after I begin investing? I'd like to fly solo on some deals but am very open to partnering and learning from a seasoned real estate vet. I have a degree in accounting and a background in tax and bookkeeping so I would have no problem helping a potential partner with their bookkeeping for this property and other properties they may own.

Hi All!

My name is Jeff Byrne and I'm from New Albany, IN. First time poster, haven't even gotten started with our plan. My family wants to start in the RE game by renting our own home after making some upgrades to the house. Our question is can we start our own LLC and put our existing mortgage under that LLC? We're looking to start renting the house a year from now but want to make sure we can take this first step. If not, is there other ways to do this? For reference we are in Southern Indiana just north of Louisville, KY. Thanks!!
