Do you think hygiene and taking care of yourself more than average can lead to more success and productivity? Maybe it leads to feeling better and being outspoken to network and find more deals? Even allow you to make better decisions?

Quote from @Jon Kelly:

Simply ask people what they do for a living. How did they get started? What is working well? What is something they could be doing better?

People love sharing stories and talking about themselves. This is perfect for someone like you who is trying to soak up as much information as possible.

 Thank you!

@Jason Raynor - Funny, I just attended a real estate conference and there was another 16 and 17 year old there. It's amazing that you found real estate investing so young. At your age, time is absolutely your friend.

Regarding good questions, just ask people how they got started, what advice they would give to you if they were in your shoes. Try to find a few investors that you can provide value to via cold calling, social media management etc. If you can find a mentor at this conference that does what you want to be doing and bring this person value, that will amplify your growth in this industry dramatically.

Thank You! This actually gave me a whole new perspective of these meetings and how they can be directly helpful for me.

So it's held by my local REIA group "TRIAD REIA" and it's occurring on Nov 17th. What's the best way to decide and come up with good questions? There'll be 3+ speakers and a 30 min interval before so people can meet and talk. I want to get there early but how should I approach people and tell them I'm new? Should I think of questions specific for that too?

Thank you, most of these have dress outlines such as business casual or formal depending on the setting of the meeting, however would a pair of chinos, tucked collar shirt and belt work. I'm big on first impressions so any input will help.

Check out the events page on bigger pockets and meetup.com and go to any local real estate investing meetup that is not in a bar.

I have run a local meetup in California for 7 or 8 years now.  Several times we have had 16-year-olds come without their parents.  Everyone was eager to help them. Most investors wish they got started when they were younger so they are excited to see a younger person with drive and determination.

So just go for it!

Thanks! I was actually able to find one and it's NOV. 17th I'm a bit nervous but wish me luck!!

@Jason Raynor, you are awesome! That is so cool you want to get started in REI! Many of us got started young.

I agree with @Trenton Miller, there is a wealth of info on BP. There are so many ways to invest. It is possible, with $1k, or less. Be a sponge! Start learning about what is attractive to you in regards to REI. Allow yourself to be wrong, like maybe you think STRs are what you want to do BUT actually, when you learn about it, you realize you hate the idea of dealing with guests.

The best thing I did was pay for education - coaching and a mentor.

The next best thing I did was learn about market cycles.

Go to local REIA groups too!

What does your dad do and what are you two good at? (IE social media, carpentry, crunching numbers, etc.)  It's always wise to get clear on what is and what isn't.  Feel free to reach out.

P.S. I'm telling my son, who is 11 yrs, about you! :)

I agree, however I'm not sure how to find REIA groups and realtors that would invite me or have me come to any events or meetings.

Hey @Jason Raynor! As a young beginner, your first step is to read this book from Bigger Pockets. www.biggerpockets.com/teen

It is specifically for teens who are exactly where you are right now - the beginning. This book is your launching point.

I am the author and have been a high school business teacher for 20 years. Let me know if you have any questions. Always happy to talk to beginners who are young like you!

Also, you should read The House Hacking Strategy (also a BP book) by @Craig Curelop.

Dan

I plan on buying a few books from there, Thanks

I would love to attend some meetings and see how real estate works first hand so I can take notes and learn as much as I can before I'm old enough to get my RE license. I live in the middle of NC and I'd also like to find a way to be a bird dogger in my area so I can make side money while gaining experience. How do I start this and where can I find/meet people and places for this?

For the last half of the year I have decided to take time to study how money works, how to make it work, and how to get into real estate. I'm continuing my studies by reading many books and scrolling through posts on BP. I'm 16 so fitting school, work, and gym in my schedule along with studying is hard but I find it a must make sacrifices and do it all while trying to be the healthiest version of myself. In conclusion my goals are being met and I am making ample progress for my health, my finances, and my relationship. I consider this year a WIN for sure!
