To answer your question, yes many wholesalers do get a bad rep.  This is mainly due to lack of experience in that it is many people's first time in the real estate world.  It is a much more affordable way to get into the industry.  

However, there are a few firms out there that specifically specialize in wholesale deals.  These firms aren't like your typical wholesaler in that they have numerous resources to generate business.  Therefore, much more volume is generated and deals are much more favorable for investors.  I am with a wholesale firm out of Nashville and we have been blowing the competition out of the water.  Our office alone is generating between 20-30 deals per month.

Hello @Garan Kama, welcome to BP and good luck with achieving your goals.  I see you mentioned exploring options in Nashville.  I live here now and it is a fantastic market to get into.  Lots of people moving here yields lots of homes being sold.  With Amazon coming here as well in the next few months, the market looks to keep growing.

Thats great!  I am currently focused on wholesaling deeply discounted deals.  I'm looking to move between 40-50 properties in this next year.
