In my opinion, house hack the heck out of that property in TX. If you're going to go there and rent for a year to test the area and see if you like it, you may as well house hack. If you get an owner occupied loan for the house hack after a year you'll be allowed to move out and move somewhere else, rent out the unit you were living in and house hack your next property.

That actually sounds like a good idea, I’d essentially live there “rent free” while collecting a small amount of money. Thank you for the response! it’s going to be difficult to look for a house while being over a thousand miles away though. I could travel there if I needed to too.

I hear that man, yea that won’t be the easiest part, but I recommend you find an investor friendly agent in the area you want to move to!
Show them a preapproval letter from a bank, and have them start looking for a property!
I recommend finding an agent right here on BP id think this would be the easiest place to find a quality agent!
if you decide to move to Georgia let me know, I can help you out here!

I will for sure! Never really thought of Georgia. As long as it’s warm I’m open to the idea. Multi family properties up in the north west seem to be pretty scarce or overpriced. Hence why moving south seems more investor friendly.

I’m currently looking to relocate as I’m still young with no ties to my current location (New Jersey) except a job. I’m starting to realize I don’t want to be in this state anymore and want to move to a warmer climate. Maybe Texas?

Would it be smart to buy a property in another state and “house hack” for the time being there? Or should I rent for a year, figure out if I like it there, then purchase?

Hey everyone, I’m just getting my feet wet in learning about real estate investment, I’m still learning as much as I can before I take a plunge!

I look forward to this long and “hopefully” luxurious journey!
