Well, it's certainly a change, but I can't complain about having a few mountains and some ocean around. I miss Midwestern culture a bit, though, and well, right now, everything around us seems to be flooded, so... I guess I'm kind of glad we *don't* own property right now. Though I do really miss having a house and a backyard (which seems to be a bit of an impossibility in Seattle proper... which certainly wasn't the case in C-U!).

I don't know about any REI groups, but definitely let me know if you hear anything. I'm actually in Seattle these days, but grew up in C-U, and would love to invest in the area... good luck!

I mainly commute! Hah. Actually, for fun, I like backpacking, camping and other outdoorsy pursuits. For real life, I work at a magazine and do a lot of research. I also like to read a lot :)

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and am just getting started in the realm of real estate investing. I grew up in central Illinois, and my husband and I bought a small house there--then he got a new job, we sold the house (lost some money on it, too), and moved to Seattle. I wish I'd known more about real estate investing back then- I would have probably rented our house out and held onto it for a while, but I guess we'll just count it a lesson learned. We're working on getting our savings rebuilt in order to purchase a second "first" home, and *then* we'd like to start looking into investing elsewhere (perhaps back in Illinois, where we know more about the investing climate... and it's a lot cheaper!). Hope to get to know more of you soon,
~Jade

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get some more responses here. Edmonton seems like a decent place, but it's in the middle of a resources boom, and I'd hate to see those resources run out and property values drop...

Where is the best place to invest in Canada? I've heard a lot about Edmonton and the oil sands areas, but I'm wondering if there aren't some other hidden gems out there that you guys could recommend?
