Here is a double cylinder deadbolt that I sell to other landlords in the area, and they told me they had local inspectors give them the go ahead on it.

you can buy a double cylinder lock that has a optional occupied setting which will pass code. Basically lock changes function when someone is in the residence. you are correct if your lock does not have this function.

I agree John. However, he could install it by himself with my instruction in about an hour. Not including trim work or painting. we could also put a double cylinder lock on the door so if they do break in the window and get in they cant tote anything out the door without a key.

I have landlords in my area that come to me weekly to fix the same exact problem. If you decide to go this route do not pay more than $450.00 for a unit. Its commercial grade so be prepared to spend a little more, but its well worth it. I can send you some pictures of a triplex we just finished up if your interested.

I am a commercial door supplier by day. If you do not want to have this problem again I suggest a hollow metal frame and door. You do not have to buy it from me, but i can explain the step by step process for installation. fix a bunch of times or one time. let me know if i can help. I need your rough opening after the frame is ripped out wXh, and your wall thickness.

If a city declares a home unsafe to enter can i still go inside and look at it? If i decide to buy can i make improvements, that will make the property safe again? Someone lived in the property 2 years ago. I have not checked into it yet, but I believe the city declared it unsafe to enter because vegetation has grown up all around the entrances.
