@Derek Schetselaar

It definitely does Derek. This is what I was hoping to get as responses from some people, that I do not have to know everything to get started, and that as long as I'm working hard to help people, they will acknowledge this and appreciate it. Sounds like you are doing well in this regard.

Thanks for the response.

Howie

@Cody Richard

Cody, thank you, I did start looking into those the other day. Are those meetings you attend often? Is there any sort of cost for those events and meetups? As I was looking through the website for those I saw some membership fees, etc. and just wondered if I started going to those if I would be roped into paying some fees off the bat.

Thanks,

Howie

@James Campbell Dang, so you got your license and now you're just on the search for a broker to work with?

Yes, leaning on his experience is definitely a plus of working with him as my broker. That is a good point about the credibility packet or something like that, I'll have to ask him about that because that could be awesome.

Thanks for reaching out. Oh and also, if you haven't, read Agent Entrepreneurs by Mike Turner. I'm just starting it, but I can already it's going to provide a lot of great information for me starting out and I'm sure it will for you too.

@Cherie Orellana Ah! A SLC local!

Thanks for the reply and all the great tips. I like the bits about remembering personal things about the people and referring to those things like kids, pets, etc. I'm also excited to be working in the area I grew up in as it gives me a heads up with knowing a thing or two about the schools, communities, etc.

Thank You!

Thanks @Catherine Emert

It is so true about reaching out to people right now, I have been trying do the same with calling people and just checking in on them.

I wish I had been doing some more networking before COVID-19 so that I was aware of local meetups that are probably happening in virtual meetings, I'll have to do some searching the web to see if I can get in on something like that.

That is a great point about the education, I just got licensed and I have to do 18 hours continuing education every 2 years in Utah, so why not get it out of the way sooner than later. Great point. Are there any of the designations that you have found are essential or more impactful for new agents to get?

Thanks Catherine, 26.2!!

@Howard Herrington thanks for the response, especially coming from another Howard, there are few of us left out there. I think you're totally right, I need to work on building my network in my community. Networking can be a little tricky right now but I am absolutely going to push myself out there and start talking to people, even if it is just over the internet and phone right now. I was also just hoping to hear that piece about being transparent. I have always felt I am someone who is open and honest with others about my knowledge on different subjects, but that is what I was hoping to hear, that I do not need to know everything perfectly before acting as someones agent as long as I give them great service and get clients answers. Thanks Howard.

Hello BiggerPockets Community.

I am a newly licensed real estate agent in Salt Lake City Utah.

I decided to get my license after a discussion with my step brother (who is now my broker) about how I could get into real estate investing. We discussed that getting my license and starting to work in the field would give me a great opportunity to learn about the market and give me a heads up in investing. So, I am pursuing becoming an investor for myself, and currently wanting to work with other investors in their pursuits.

Which brings me to my point. I have read the posts on BiggerPockets regarding choosing a Real Estate Agent,  the surefire way to find the best real estate agent in 3 easy steps https://www.biggerpockets.com/... How to find an investor friendly real estate agent https://www.biggerpockets.com/... Real estate agent, or no real estate agent?? https://www.biggerpockets.com/...

These are all great articles, but I feel like a college graduate reading through job posts which all state 5 years experience as a requirement or something like that. These all emphasize, look for the agent doing the most deals, look for the agent with the most experience, etc.

I am asking this community, what are some tips for newbie Real estate agents? For these Agents who do not have the years of experience. What are some things that you love about agents you work with, aside from their years of experience? What are some tips for up and coming agents that can help us help you? Obviously new agents won't always know answers to every question investing clients have for us, but hopefully we work with quality brokers who do have good answers (I'm glad I do-my step brother/broker invests in the Salt Lake Area and works on flips, brrrrr's, investments, regularly.

Thanks for reading and responding.
