In my case, the income tax savings of living in a tax free state would probably make up for any potential property taxes, just based on a quick look at properties on Redfin.

Thanks for the response everyone! Since I travel a lot and don't spend a lot of time in my primary residence, profitability definitely trumps my living preferences at this point.

If you were a single, self-employed, and location-independent worker, how would you go about identifying the best house-hacking opportunity in a tax-free US state? Ideally, I'd like to use a FHA loan to purchase a multi-family unit (up to 4 units) and live in one of the units. Any tax-free state is fair game.
