Oleg,

That question I feel is to broad, it really depends on what you're trying to do. It's clearly a buy and hold but are you trying something creative or the more traditional bank loan route, the best way to get a good answer to any question is to be specific about what you mean.

Just from what I've gathered from your question here is my response

Answer: you would need some money, but it doesn't have to be your money.

Answer: it's different for each bank but I've read that mostly if you want to go through the bank you can up till you have about 4 mortgages than it seems to get tricky but there are still portfolio lenders and things like that.

I am in Fort Hood Texas and I was looking around to buy and hold a duplex as an owner occupant in Killeen, Harker Heights, or Copperas Cove. I am going to use my VA loan so I won't have to put anything down and I was going to make sure not to look for anything over 95,000. So my problems are that sense I am around a military post there are always hundreds of rental options. I don't know how I would make my unit stand out or how to market the unit effectively and I don't have an exit strategy. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated and be sure to tell me if I've missed anything crucial. This will be my first buy and I am no expert.

Hey everyone, I'm Marshall Holmes and I am super excited about bigger pockets and to learn from everyone. I don't really have any experience with real estate all I know is what I've looked up and I'm hoping I can find something and have enough proof that it'll work for my wife to jump on board. I'm not really sure what strategy I want to use but I would like to explore my options. I want probably at the very least two buy and hold properties in the next three years just to cushion me for my exit from the army. Other than that I hope to learn a lot from everyone! See you around!
