Hello everyone, I have been lurking around BP learning about house hacking, and have found some useful tips, but most of them seem applied to less expensive/competitive markets. I am interested in either finding a SFH that I can rent out rooms, or a multifamily (less then 4 units) and I would live in one of the units. Looking at the market in San Diego, the rental income does not seem to match the mortgages. I am looking in Imperial Beach, so I can be close to work. Anyone have any tips for the area, or would it be just better to rent a place and save my money for a different investment property.

Hello BP, I am new to the website, and I am interested in learning more in real estate investing (primarily house hacking). I currently live in the Central Valley of California, but will be moving to San Diego, and I am interested in buying a property in Imperial Beach. Any advice on the area or people's experience house hacking multifamily properties would be great! My prior experience in real estate investment is that I bought and sold a home, and while living there I rented out the extra rooms.
