Post: Options for fire damanged rental property

One of my rental properties in Austin had a fire recently when tenants used fireplace. There is extensive damage to the house and I am working with my insurance company and have talked to couple of fire restoration companies. One option I have is to demo and rebuild the house using insurance money but it will take about a year and lot of involvement. I have experience with minor to medium size rehabs but nothing as extensive as needed here. I spoke to few folks and other option is that I take the insurance settlement and not rebuild and try to sell the house as-is. I am looking for some advice from someone who have had similar experience and what are the pros and cons. If there are any legal issues that I have to worry about etc.

@Christopher B. And @Aaron K., thanks for your responses. The issue was resolved last week after my listing agent took the listing offline and waited for 4 hours until it was updated on sites like realtor.com and then listed it again and after that Zillow started showing our listing. We tried to take it offline and list it again earlier as well but didn’t wait long enough in between I guess.

Hi everyone,

I have been following BP for few months but finally posting for first time. I am currently in process of finding a tenant for one of my properties in Austin and working with leasing agent. He listed on MLS right after closing and listing was showing up on Zillow for couple days and then it somehow got overwritten by sold listing. Listing shows up on all other sites but just not Zillow. My listing agent and I have tried to contact Zillow multiple times through phone, by reporting listing as incorrect and I opened even support ticket - it has been almost 2 weeks and no response from Zillow. I even tried to list on Zillow rental manager directly and it failed. Has anyone run into this issue before and how did you resolve it? I have heard lot of tenants use Zillow so not having listing live there, it is hurting me in getting more leads. Any pointers would be great. Thanks.
