Post: Removing joint compound

Does anyone know how to remove hardened joint compound from bathroom sink basins and tubs? Sloppy contractors placed it there and I don't want to damage my new sink or tub! Also the silver paste that they use to put on roofs they got some on my bathroom fixtures and I don't know what to use to remove it! Any suggestions for any of the above???

Rehabbing a home and not sure if it is necessary to add hvac duct work to bathrooms when there is already duct work throughout the rest of the house except the 2 bathrooms. I don't know if I want to take on that expense unless it is absolutely necessary. The house is a 3BR/2BA - 3 level row home in Baltimore, MD.
