Hi Ben -

Yes to echo Adam you'll need to take the 75 hour prelicensing class taught by an instructor certified to the NC Real Estate Commission. I've taken this course and subsequent continuing ed classes from Chapel Hill-based Deb Long and she is awesome. You might search online to see if there are classes that would fit your work schedule. There are a lot more options compared to 5 years ago, with housing booming in the Triangle and so many folks are entering real estate brokerage. And yes you'll need to find a shop to hang your hat until you move to full broker status. All in all, it's not that bad but the Commission is strict so you have to be focused about deadlines, requirements, fees, etc. or the Commission will make you start over again.  Good luck!

Hi Dave -

Finding a good mason around here is really tough. The best ones are tied with contractors who keep them busy all the time. Others are loose collections of laborers who assemble and disassemble unexpectedly and may not have insurance. I've done some simple masonry projects like relaying brick walkways with this vendor and they were fine; you might look at their website:

Good luck!

You might look at Oak + Acorn Property Management; they are based in downtown Durham. The broker in charge, Michelle Ketchum, is a smart UNC grad who gets technology and marketing. She spent an hour on the phone with me recently to answer a few questions about investing in Durham. She was very professional. Lots of good information on their website.

Hi Rashard -

I am new to this site and just saw your listing for 1116 Gurley St in Durham. I am a Chapel Hill investor. Is that property still available for purchase? Thank you, Greg Fitch
