@Sebastian Caycedo Thanks Sebastian. Yeah that's what I'm planning to do first. Bury my head and read as much as I can before I do anything.

@Ali Boone Thanks for the advice Ali. I also just checked your website. Pretty useful stuff there as well.

@Mike Jakobczak It would be awesome if you can send me a list of the few local real estate groups. Wouldn't mind checking some out.

@Paul Timmins Thanks for the heads up. I'm starting with the free guide and the podcasts.

Wow, thanks guys for those quick replies. Makes me feel better that I can easily get answers to my questions.

@Gary McGowan Thanks Gary. I won't be able to make it, but I'll give you a shout so you can keep me updated with the future meetings.

@Dave Vogt Yeah that's what I have been reading on the BP posts regarding Fortune Builders. I already paid for the Insiders Summit, but oh well you have to make mistakes to learn right? Pretty excited at scouring every nook and cranny of BP though.

@Simon Lloyd We currently have a condo with a tenant, and besides our own home that's our only real estate experience. And being a condo, I'm not really making much money out of it. But it's cool to hear stories like yours. If you don't mind me asking, how do you go about figuring the ARV? I mean I guess you can't really know unless you have an understanding of upgrade needs and relevant construction costs.

Hi Everyone. My name is Metin Guler. I'm a writer/filmmaker from Toronto, Canada. My wife and I have been thinking for years to invest in real estate, however because of our lack of knowledge in this field, and our own fears, it never went beyond the "thinking" phase.

We recently attended a Fortune Builders seminar, and signed up for one of their weekend long "Insiders Summit". This got us to start reading more about how to go about investing in real estate. I personally have my reservations about Fortune Builders (seems like a marketing scam to sell expensive courses), which led to me one of the forums here at BP. Seeing that there are many other ways to find investors to learn from, I've signed up to BP.

At this point, we are both novices. We are not yet sure about what type of real estate investing we would be interested to focus on. But our long term aim is to own a string of properties that can bring us a steady income so that we can focus on things we are passionate about. The site seems a bit overwhelming at first. We hope to learn as much as I can from the various resources the site provides as well as hopefully meet and learn from other more experienced investors especially from our area.
