Post: Multifamily challenge = house hack: help!

My wife and I are looking at homes in Brooklyn (NYC) and we are frustrated at the high prices of small houses with no land, no garages or even parking.

We would like to stay and make our first home a house hack with 3-4 families (we have seen them!!)

Plan B is to move south. Cheaper homes, better tax incentives and more land!!

Any insights?

@Charles Schuyler thanks for responding. I read your thread. How has your journey been since you began? You had a few replies to your thread. Have any of them been progressive?

@Keith Maison thanks for the article. I will read it now.

Learning how to use the BP app and spending more time reading articles and listening to the BP podcasts.

@Brian Gerlach Thanks for the tip! My wife knows a few realtors and as you might expect, their advice was to become a realtor since that gives you access to the MLS.

I am not interested in renting apartments or the occasional single family as all 4 of these realtors do (and advised me to do) so while that advice was considered it isn't my interest.

A few meetups in NYC ask for cash just to be on a webinar; next case. Still looking. I have no problem paying for info (I will go pro on BP after reviewing all the options offered this week) but a lot of the basics should already be out there.

BTW I have BP's "How To Invest In RE" and "Rental Properties" by Brandon Turner.

@Forrest Faulconer

Although new to investing I am actually in a similar reality.

I would invest in a house hack or a fix and flip for faster cash. If the hack came first I would borrow equity from it after a year to get up to 4 more deals going (low end, about $100K each) which is now $400K in homes to be flipped.

If fix and flip came first then just to make quick cash I would go in a smaller less aggressive market (smaller state) like Delaware, or smaller cities. If each home were $50K I would invest 20% on on at least 2 to be flipped and get my cash reserves.

I am new to real estate investing. One of my primary focuses is multi families and I would like to do my first deal as a house hack in NYC or Long Island with a 3, ideally 4 unit house.

I am willing to do it with a partner or a team (syndication) but really just need a little guidance, and a team!

I am expecting to get a little funding sometime this season; I will explain privately. Meanwhile what of a hard money lender, contractor, property manager (until I learn how to be one), RE accountant and RE lawyer?

Forming a business for this is easy but I want to make sure this is possible for me here in NYC.

Please help!

Greetings everyone!

As a newbie in the world of real estate investing I would like to know how I can find investors for future real estate investments?

I live in New York City but I am looking to work in syndication with other investors.

I have a small amount to get started (although I have been told you can start with nothing) but am not in a hurry to lose what I have either.

Suggestions and comments are welcome.

FJ
