I'll definitely look into SFH. It might be better starting off smaller rather than diving into too deep to an apartment complex or multifamily building. @David Barnett, thank you for the heads up, was completely unaware about that. Perhaps house hacking a duplex in the Brookline or Brighton area would be more suitable. Like I said, I still have much to learn and it's clear I need to do more research.

Would I be better off looking for properties in different areas or different types of properties? I know CoL in Boston is very high. The reason I'm set on this area is because of the large population of college students in the area looking for affordable places to rent.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a 4 unit rental property in the greater Boston area at the end of 2019. I'm still in college, have a ton of student debt, don't have a steady job, and still have much to learn about RE investing (hence why I don't plan on buying until a few years).

I plan on living in the building and hiring some help with managing the property. I'm dedicated to learning and saving until I have at least $15,000 to go into the deal, but I still worry: Am I going to be in over my head? And will I be able to secure financing with a low down payment in spite of my student debt?

Thoughts?

Hey everyone, I've recently joined BP and just wanted to introduce myself. My names Evan and I'm a junior in college majoring in business and German, with a minor in Econ. I've read a number of books on RE, but beyond that I don't have any experience. That's why I'm here; looking to learn more. My first goal is to purchase a 4 unit multi-family property in the greater Boston area at the end of 2019. My overall goal is to purchase 20 rental properties within 20 years (after my first). I plan on acquiring as much knowledge on RE as I can get my hands on, as well as meeting the right people to make deals with. I look forward to meeting you guys. If anyone needs help with sales/ marketing, I'd be happy to share what I know. I'm an avid reader (3-4 non-fiction books per week) and have some experience in network marketing and social media marketing. Let me know how I can help. Not sure if this is an appropriate post or not, but I'm sure I'll find out eventually regardless. Cheers!
