What you're describing sounds awesome. Until that perfect solution comes about, I have some hacks that help me shorten the process. 

I use Zillow's main search feature and add some of the map filters they provide. I am then able to immediately disregard certain areas. (I filter first for crime, since that is most important to me)

There's also a cool calculator I just found mentioned in a different discussion that actually calculates estimated rental fees for the area: https://www.rentometer.com/ Just enter any rental number to get the estimate.
