Hi everyone,

I'm new to BP, lived in Houston all my life. I'm hoping to score a deal on a multifamily unit, duplex, triplex, etc. in the next few months. I currently live in Sharpstown, I love the area with it's proximity to shops and restaurants in Chinatown. Furthermore it seems to be a lot safer than when I was a kid, plenty of families, people walking dogs in my neighborhood. I see a lot of duplexes driving along Gessner but when I check the MLS (Redfin) I can't find anything worth a look, but I know they must be out there!

I'm still a couple months away from getting into financing (my lease is up in August). Just wanted to know if anyone is familiar with the area, maybe the deals are out there, just not on the MLS? This will be my first time buying a property. I feel like southwest Houston is a pretty decent place to live, flooding issues aside.

Curious to know what some of you think and if anyone has bought properties in SW Houston.

Thanks

-Eric

Hi Bigger Pockets,

I am looking to buy my first property in the next few months here in Houston, hopefully some kind of multi-family, duplex, triplex, or 4-plex. I have been trying to read as much as I can over the last few months before I make the dive and be as prepared as I can.

My background is actually in commercial real estate accounting, so I have a little experience on the financial side, if not so much the sweat equity side of things. My plan is to use a $20K down payment to get something in an upcoming area of Houston (3rd or 5th Ward, or Sharpstown/Chinatown). I already rent a single family home in Sharpstown with 3 roommates, each paying a fairly affordable $380 a month in rent. Living in this area over the past few years I've noticed how it's steadily improved, with great restaurants, parks, and schools nearby, and I'd like to continue living here, but I'm also not opposed to moving if I found a great deal elsewhere.

Anyway, that's my deal, thanks for reading and I am happy to be a part of this community.
