Post: NYC Out of State Investors

Hey everyone,

I live and work in Manhattan and have been interested in getting my first out-of-state rental for over a year without action. My focus has shifted a bunch of times between FL or maybe more local like the poconos. Anyone in a similar situation and interested in meeting up for drinks / coffee, after work / weekends? I figure with more people in the same situation, we can help each other out and have some sort of accountability.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi Shweta... Did you end up getting a rental property in the poconos?

It would be the 514 per month. That being said, I find Zillow tax estimates to be inaccurate so I usually take the address and look it up on the county website for the actual tax records.

Thanks for the responses guys! I'm definitely interested in finding more about Lakeland and will continue to research.

@Alexander Bacon, thanks for the offer! I'll definitely reach out to you in the near future.

To preface, I'm a brand new investor and considering different markets for my first property to invest in. My current preference is to look for a duplex instead of single family homes.

I've been looking at Lakeland FL and I was wondering if the area in general is good for duplexes? I know there are different submarkets and have started to do more research but would love some insight to see if this is an area I should look at in more detail or if I should try to look at some other markets.

Thanks!

Eric

Is there a specific time of the year when you can challenge the assessment or can it be done anytime?

@Scott Wolf - Can you send me your recommendation? I'm actually interested in seeing if this can lower my tax assessment for my residence in Manhattan.

Zillow will show the source of the sold amount. In my experience, if there are seller refunds or rebates, that doesn't get shown on the price.
