@Julie Marquez

Project management/construction jobs have always intrigued me - it must be very satisfying to watch a project unfold according to plan. I sometimes wish I had the background to be be involved in that area of real estate. Alas, I'm a city boy with a white collar degree.

I am ashamed to admit that my knowledge of tools end with screwdrivers and wrenches, so recently I've puchased a home improvement book that will help bring me up to speed. Hopefully, I'll be able to fix toilets and lay tile one day. For now, righty tighty lefty loosey.

May I ask what is your degree?

Hi All,

Thanks so much for all the responses and support!

@Joe Homs

Thanks - I will definitely look into attending in the near future. Am not aware of any contacts involved in real estate community here, will find out!

@Glenn Humphreys

Thanks - will shoot you a PM!

@Paul Timmins

Thanks for all the info - will dig in!

@Peter Mckernan

Thanks for the entry level suggestions. I love the idea of property management and the hands on opportunity, but at the same time wondering if the pay level is what I should be aiming for with a degree, and more importantly, what are the future career paths. Is a property management background a good stepping stone for other real estate jobs?

The part-time job sounds great and I have been looking around a little. On Craigslist, the postings look a little shady - any advice on where or how to find a solid offer?

@Jo-Ann Lapin

Thanks neighbor! Will look into it.

@Ross Hartmann

Look forward to it!

Hey All,

I'm a 27 yo Finance graduate that's been working a dead-end product managing job for almost 2 years and strongly considering building a career in real estate, partially to prepare myself for personal investing.

I don't really have any relevant experience so am looking at potential entry level jobs. Going over the property manager job description, I feel like this is the exact training I've been looking for in order to purchase and manage my own rental properties when the time comes. However, would I limiting myself in terms of potential lifetime earnings, especially as a college graduate? What are the career path opportunities, besides starting a management company?

Any other recommendations? Other options I've been kicking around are loan processor, inspector, or just real estate agent intern. What about the best thing I can do to make myself more attractive to employers in the mean time ? Real estate license? Any other certifications or maybe an MBA?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm from OC and am looking to both invest in rental properties and break into a real estate career.

I'm a 27 yo Finance major that has just finished paying off student and car loans. After meeting 2015/2016 Roth IRA contributions, hopefully I'll be able to save up enough for a low down payment (have a family member willing to help out by matching) property in a year to a year and a half, so I'd like to study up during the time as much as I can (currently on third book -written by Frank Gallinelli regarding cash flow)

On the other hand, I've been in a dead-end product manager position so am looking to switch careers, preferably one that combines real estate and finance. I'm considering mostly non-sales job such as loan processing, underwriting, acquisitions, maybe even property management. I'm mostly interested in jobs that not only provide decent pay, but more importantly, equip me with the skills to analyze properties for when I do personal investments. Any suggestions on getting my foot in the door? I have no relevant experience (only somewhat valuable skill is fluent in Mandarin) so I'm thinking I'd either have to intern, entry sales (at which I'll probably suck), get an MBA, or a realtor's license. Any other quick certifications I should be considering to help get employment? I currently live at home and have fairly low expenses but almost no savings either.

Suggestions welcome - thanks in advance!
