Hi Erica

I joined BP just two days back and my head is already overflowing with information. I am an electrical engineer by trade and love it but i am looking to build a modest portfolio in the Burgh!

Would love to hear about your experience so far.

Hey Kalhan, great to hear from you! Thanks for reaching out, we should talk more when you get a minute. Great resource here, isn't it?

Don't have shiny object syndrome before you do your first deal or two. Most people will never get to their first deal because they are stuck learning NEW and EXCITING things about different fields in RE. Get a basic understanding and then take action.

Ps, the real reason your post caught my eye was because my brother in law's name is Eric Payne. Their family is from western PA. Maybe you guys are related somehow. weird.

Sorry, I am still getting the hang of this, but I did respond, just not the right way the first time. That's a great point, taking action. I mentioned in the response about asset protection... Any thoughts or info you may have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Ha, I was born & raised in Pittsburgh..  I'm a Pens / Steeler fan through and through..
But to your point, yes, I get the 'one finger salute'.. a lot.. lol

Oic, no Pirates fan, huh? Okay, I see how it is...

Maybe it's been a while since you been back and need the grand tour of PNC Park! ;)

I think what you've written is a great goal to have!

I am just getting started as well and what made me get involved in Real Estate is to have an additional income stream outside of stocks and the 9-5 job. I've always been one to think that having multiple sources of money coming in is the best way to go!

I am currently a Quality Control Scientist while investing in my first buy and hold duplex (house hacking). I've had a number of different types of jobs, but one day I hope my investing becomes full time.

Right now my dream is to build a real estate portfolio that will allow me to be able to either keep a day job I love or invest full time. I'm hoping I can get to the point where my life where I can truly do whatever I would like to do without worrying about money coming in. As I grow and look for new deals you could probably help by providing me with wholesale deals! Since I aspire to be a buy and hold investor and follow the BRRRR strategy wholesalers are a great resource.

Like I said I am new and just getting started (closing on our first place next week). Your plans seem reasonable to me and as long as you go in with a how can I attitude instead of the why can't I attitude I think you'll do great!

Best of luck,

Tony

Sorry I'm still getting the hang of this site, but now I know how to respond to each response! Thanks for the intro, honestly I did respond to you that day. Check it out, and got me up PM sometime

Sorry Joseph Druther, no relation! But I was named after my dad, so that's 2 people named Eric Payne in Pittsburgh that you know! Lol

My biggest issue is asset protection, the only thing holding me back! When that is squared away I'm ready to roll! Thanks for the advice

Thank you Tony! I love to hear from people with diverse backgrounds that are doing what I'm doing. I can't wait to hear how all that is going for you in the future! Best of luck!

Let me know if there is anything you need help with in the future! I went to a great meetup last Thursday. They meet once a month. Hit me up PM if you have not gone yet but would like to. It's a cool and chill group. Peace!

As of April 2016, I am new to this game. I currently am a social worker, working with families throughout 2 counties in western PA. I love my job, but can't stand the paycheck! That's why I'm excited to start in real estate. I can actually keep my job but make a little extra on the side! More importantly, I am learning something really different than I'm used to, and I absolutely love it!

I have some big goals to help non traditional mortgage families and professionals obtain their own home. Everyone deserves safe, clean housing a and a real opportunity to own their own home. (Does that sound like probable market expansion?)

That's in the 5 year plan. First I have to gain some capital and establish my brand. I am starting with wholesales and moving to rehabs. I will probably throw in a couple other passive income deals since they all sound fun. I am willing to do anything once just to learn the procedure. I don't intend to limit my work to Pennsylvania exclusively, though it's a great place to start!

The best part about this business is it's a team effort. That excites me since I'm used to working in team environments and I don't feel like I'm alone in this. I can't wait to hear about you. What made you choose this field? What were you doing before this? Or while doing this? What are your dreams? How can I help you accomplish them?

How long have you been doing this, and what are your thoughts on my plans? Do they seem plausible?

Thank you for taking some time out of your busy day to get to know me a little. I hope I get a chance to get to know you and work with you and build  valuable, long lasting friendships. Enjoy.
