I would recommend interview few brokerages talk to other realtors and join a brokerage that is offering some sort of training. At this stage everyone in your sphere of influence should know that you are a licensed real estate agent . Remember to always follow up with prospects so you don't lose them . Good luck

I am realtor in Calgary and to my understanding there is no issue with selling your own properties . I have one listed right now only thing I had to do was indicate in the private remark 'agent has interest in the property' . With that being said I am not sure what the rules are in other provinces or in the US.

Only con I see if the fees to maintain for license. Insurance, yearly renewal fees etc. 

You might also want to look in to flex down payment.
