Definitely echoing what Aaron said above. Private lenders are private and word-of-mouth is best. I would also like to add that finding a reputable broker or broker office would be beneficial. They often have connections to multiple private lenders and can vouch for them. I can give a recommendation if needed.

I would recommend finding a smaller lender/broker company and using them for all of your out-of-state needs, as long as they are able to meet them. You could build a lot of rapport with them and get a feel for the process and then in turn can accurately quote timelines.
