Hi @Ali Boone ! That's really cool, I actually live right in Fullerton! How'd you know :)

I got interested in real estate because my parents got into it. They weren't as internet savvy so I helped them out. I also think the idea of being able to retire on passive income from REI is really cool.

If you don't mind me asking, was there a reason why you chose out of state rentals? I've been trying to do research on that but I find it easier to analyze deals in California as I have better access to information on units up for sale (aunt's a real estate agent in OC). I've heard places like Bakersfield offer decent ROI.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new member of BP. I've been lurking around for a couple years, but now that I've graduated I thought I'd make an account and take real estate investing seriously. I've read books, followed forum threads, blog posts, and podcasts; but nothing beats hands on experience!

Originally my plan was to invest in rentals, specifically multi-family units, for extra cash flow. But since realizing how difficult that is in my area I've also looked into places outside my area (Inland Empire, Central California, out of state) as well as considering buying and holding for appreciation. If anyone has tips or can point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome!
