@Chad Clanton howdy and thanks for the advice.  I'll check in to these requirements, they could give me some direction of the knowledge I need to pick up.

Chad, I just moved from Austin a little over two years ago.  The growth from there down to San Antonio was noticeable and I imagine it's booming now.  Hows business?

Hi @Juan Diaz!

At this time I don't have those qualifications.  And I'm not going to disagree with you, because if I were an investor needing someone to manage the build I would want to hire someone with those qualifications that you speak of.  I do believe there is the opportunity to get in as an "Assistant" PM of some sort, as I've seen such opportunities posted on the job boards.

I'm trying to get those qualifications in the meantime.  Degree in finance with a real estate emphasis, taken the courses construction management and landscape construction, trying to get some field experience with Habitat for Humanity, and I'm working for a subcontractor as their construction accountant (so we can check off some of the administrative knowledge).  I'm looking at courses and considering doing a construction management certificate program, but just not sure what's best for me.

I'm just happy to find a career I'm excited about, because you know accounting can be a little mundane at times.

Thanks Juan

Hello BiggerPockets community and hello to the East Bay REI community!

Two interesting things have happened to me recently that have led me to BiggerPockets.

For one, my wife and I just got married and so we are in the whole house buying process.  We are but in the initial stages of planning and budgeting, so not too far along.  Yet it was enough to trigger an obsessive interest in real estate investment, something I studied in college but never practiced.  So I'm back to learning about real estate investment, specifically residential rentals and fix-and-flips.

The second event comes from a career change that has been in the works for a while.  I've been in accounting for 6+ years and have been looking for a way out, I just didn't know what I wanted to transition into.  After working with a career coach, taking some classes in interested subjects, and meeting with people in other careers I settled on something along the lines of like a residential construction manager for remodels or fix-and-flips.  Why? Because I enjoy the planning and coordination, I enjoy design and building, I want to be out in the field often, and I believe I'd excel at it. So I'm starting to look around for investors/employers looking to bring someone on like myself.

I look forward to reading about and learning from your experiences and engaging in discussion with the community.

Regards,

Eddie
