Ah well, I guess all the info on BP is for when you can't be there in person!

@Ann Bellamy Just curious, does anyone take meeting notes or anything? It would be interesting info to look over even if we can't attend in person.

The advice is good, it is just slightly irritating to have to follow a link to your website in order to read the entire thing. Maybe post the whole article and then link to your website after with something like "If you want to check out my other articles, look here"

Thanks for the info. It may actually be in my best interest to see if I can transfer back to the states with the same company for a little while. That would at least give me the continued job history and ability to physically see what I buy beforehand :p

@Kyle Hipp How would you advise doing this if you needed to move before investing? My situation is similar to Seth's except that I am currently living outside the country. In order to begin, I would need to switch jobs, and living outside the country makes it hard to buy first. Is my only option just waiting a few years after switching?

@Dawn Anastasi Do you keep the accounts all with the same bank? If so, do you have any tips for dealing with them from a business perspective? I feel like the typical person working in a local branch might be a bit confused by someone holding 5 different accounts. I have no experience with it though, so maybe it is something that they do every day.

Thanks for the encouraging responses everyone. I have been checking out the podcast and as much info as I can get a hold of here on the website. The most frustrating part is reading so much and realizing that I can't really do anything without a major life change :p

@Kristopher K. I grew up around the Plymouth / Kingston area, so that is what I know best. Realistically, I would want to have an income from a regular job for a while, so I might be living closer to the city, but I could be down in the Providence area too. It just depends on where i can find a reasonable new job.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to real estate investing and in a position with a few choices as to how to go about it. My ultimate goal is to acquire passive income streams off of rentals in a stable market, but my real issue is the distance from any market that I know or would be comfortable investing in. I grew up south of Boston, but currently live and work overseas. The majority of my expenses are paid for at the moment, so I am able to save for down payments, etc, but I can't seem to sort out a good way to deal with my location. I do not want to invest where I currently am as I will be leaving in a year or two and it is insanely expensive here. On the other hand, I feel like all I can really do is continue learning and wait until my situation stabilizes a bit. Ideally, I would like to invest in something like a 2-4 unit multi and live in one of them to get some good experience as a start. It seems to all depend on me making the choice to move back to the states and change my lifestyle a bit though. Any advice or experience from people that move around a lot on how to get involved in real estate investing?
