Welcome to Bigger Pockets, Dominic!

You'll find plenty of friendly, knowledgeable people willing to help respond to your questions. Many members are experts in their respective fields related to real estate investing, whether that is real estate brokerage, wholesaling, flipping, buy and hold, lending, self-directed IRA and Solo 401k investing, or tax and legal guidance.

There are some pretty cool discounts on various products and services offered as Perks to BP members that you might want to check out: https://www.biggerpockets.com/perks/pro

Thanks for the info Justin! I've been meaning to research this self-directed IRA I keep hearing about.

Thanks Cliff! I love the podcast and love this community. Like the intro to the podcast says, this really is "real estate investing without all the hype".

After selling the house, will you focus 100% on Charlotte? Or are you considering investing in Fayetteville also?

I ask because you find that your money will go further in the Fort Bragg area. Just something to consider.

Best of luck!

-Andrew

I am open to any market that I can find a deal that the numbers make sense! I am extremely focused on finding a live in flip or house hack in the Charlotte area because we need a place to live come September but I would absolutely be open to doing a deal here in the Fort Bragg area before I leave. Do you have experience investing here around Fort Bragg?

Good luck in Charlotte!

Thank you Angie! I'm sure it will come to no surprise that Fort Bragg is a big rental market since it is the biggest base in the United States and the rate at which military members move. I personally have not done any deals here (basically breaking even on the house I bought here) but I know people who have invested here. Quuuuuuuuuuuuuuick tip, the areas directly around Fort Bragg are not great neighborhoods. Most people commute anywhere from 20-45 minutes to base. I personally prefer the areas north of base: Cameron, Sandford, Anderson Creek, and Southern Pines. Also, not sure how familiar you are with the military but there are some pros and cons to renting to military members. One thing that is common in a rental lease around here is that you can break your lease and leave early without a fee so long as you have military orders to move to another base. Another perk would be if a military member trashes your place you can contact their leadership at work because military members fall under the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) on top of civilian laws and regulations. I wouldn't mind renting here, and I just might if I find a deal that works before I move. Where are you from in Maryland? I was born in Silver Spring! If you think of any specific questions about the Fort Bragg area feel free to message me.

Thanks Adam! I actually grew up in PA! Small town called Bradford, way up north, 5 minutes from the NY line in the middle of nowhere.

Sorry for the late post, selling my house and finishing up my degree have been taking up all my free time! Thank you for the welcome, I am open to where ever the market makes sense and the deal takes us but we are leaning towards the north/northwestern suburbs of Charlotte. Reason being, my wife is looking at attending UNC Charlotte and the Air National Guard unit I will belong to is over in New London/Albemarle. We are trying to split the distance so we were thinking of Concord, Huntersville, Harrisburg, Mint Hill, possibly even Fort Mill (I hear taxes are more forgiving in SC vs NC). What area do you recommend for living and investing?

Hello BP family my name is Dominic Franco! I am currently in the process of selling my house over here in the Fort Bragg, NC area and looking to relocate the Charlotte area. I'm looking to kick off my real estate investing career with a live and flip or house hack a multi-family home. The content in these forums, the podcasts, and books is invaluable. I am soaking up as much information as I can so that when the opportunity arises I can finally make a move on my first real estate investment.
