A good way to get started is by writing down your spending and income. This will give you a good idea of how quickly you can chip away at that debt. There's plenty of apps out there to help, one that I really like is called Toshl (it's free too).

Good luck!

Hey all,

For the past 2 months I've been using a pretty cool app mentioned in one of the podcasts called Toshl. I just use the same card for all my purchases and about twice a week I'll log in and update my spending (I round to the nearest dollar to speed up the process). There's a paid version that'll link to your account but the free one is working great so far. Anyways, are there any other budgeting/finance apps you recommend? I also use Robinhood for some investing on the side.

Cheers

@Chris Higgins

@Terry Skinner

Hey Terry, looks like you’re out of Orlando, do you go to UCF? Many colleges have Real Estate clubs, and if yours doesn’t have one you can always start one up. Most clubs need a professor to sponsor them, so you can find out which professors are interested in real estate. Other than that read books, listen to podcasts, work so you’ll have the money to invest when you’re ready, etc.

Good Luck!

Invest in Florida and you’ll never have that issue, now hurricanes on the other hand...

Welcome Tyler!

Looking never hurts, even 3 years ago when I was renting and still finishing school I would occasionally check out Zillow or Craigslist. Looking will give you a feel for the area. See what the pricing looks like, which areas see more action, what amenities seem to sell properties the quickest, and what the rents look like in the area you're looking at. First I'd see what kind of options there are for breaking your lease or subleasing your apartment. If you found a duplex or multi that is a good price you could move in, start fixing up one unit, when that one is done rent it out, move into the other and get to work fixing that one as well. I'd recommend talking with a realtor as well as a contractor, check out some articles on BP about the "core four" and that'll give you a good idea of the team you'll need.

Good luck!
